Questions and answers
The Parental Advisory label: what it is and how to use it
It warns of explicit language or mature themes in the lyrics. The label was introduced by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1985 and has been printed on album and single covers with explicit content ever since.
Streaming services flag a track as Explicit from the distributor’s metadata, not from the artwork, so the label on the cover is tradition and design rather than a requirement. But if the track has explicit lyrics, you do need to tick Explicit when uploading the release — otherwise the platform may take it down.
Transparent PNG, each style in black and white. Downloads are free with no sign-up: use the label on your cover art, snippets, stories and release promo.
